Dr. Pettey

From the Office of Dr. Pettey:

An Implant that Stuck

The Charlotte Observer reported in January 1998 that French
anthropologists found the remains of a metal tooth in the skull of
a man who lived 1,900 years ago. The iron right upper molar is
thought to be the earliest documented case of a successful, fully
functional dental implant.

Its owner was a 30 year old man who died around the end of the
first century A.D. and was buried in a Gallo-Roman graveyard near
the present-day city of Essone, France.
